Intrigued at the idea of a second-hand vehicle and want to ascertain our personal recommendations for varying price range? We have you covered. Here’s a broad list of a few types of vehicles in stock which are an excellent option for their respective price range and your budget.
Compacts
Small yet practical, pragmatism is a compact’s forte. Undoubtedly, it’s a very saturated segment with tons of respectable offerings from different manufacturers, but the recipe often remains the same.
$15,000 – $20,000
For less than 15 grand, you can still find a somewhat recent model, albeit with a higher mileage on the clock. Two models are popular here, namely the Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus. Both are quite different, with the Cruze being praised for its sharp look, good kit and comfortable handling. The Focus is mostly available in hatchback form, and its esteemed record needs little explanation, with its spacious cabin, quality fit and finish and excellent chassis dynamics.
Spare another five grand, and you can expect to find lower mileage and newer examples. At this price range, the Nissan Sentra and Nissan Altima stand out, although you’ll be stuck with a worse example for the latter. Both are quite similar in their qualities: good design inside out, laid-back driving experience. The Altima is larger though and does sport a nicer interior finish.
$20,000+
For this much money, you’d be expecting a barely used example with range-topping trim packages – a 2018 Ford Fusion, Dodge Charger, etc. However, one model stands out in particular, and it’s a pre-owned Ford Focus ST or an exciting used Subaru FR-S or Impreza. Money for money, these cars are one of the most thrilling rides you can buy.
Pickup Trucks
These used trucks are all duty ready and capable of hauling serious cargo.
$20,000 – $30,000
While you can spend the upper spectrum of 30 grand and get a very pleasing late-year model with all the bells and whistles if a bed is all you need then even 20 grand can get you something worth talking. For Garston, the used Dodge Ram trucks have been our best seller, followed by the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado.
SUVs
Prepared to deal with almost anything out there, Pre-owned SUVs can be great all-rounders.
Less than $10,000
Again, you’ll be dealing with an older model with more miles on the clock, but for this money, it’s a lot of a car, literally and figuratively. At this price range, you’d be looking at either the early post-facelift used Dodge Journey or late second-generation Ford Escape. Both excel at carrying out SUV duty but will suffer from worse mileage and performance due to the aging chassis and drivetrain.
Less than $20,000
For another ten grand though you will considerably broaden your options. You can find third-gen Ford Escape, second-gen Chevrolet Equinox, later models Dodge Journeys with better engines and fully decked out Hyundai Santa Fe. These are at a comfortable price range to be long-term daily runabouts.
Less than $30,000
If you’re keen to stretch your budget further, 30 grand can net you barely-worn 2017 models with quite the kit to boot. A few models are popular at this price range, namely the latest Nissan Rogue and Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder, in particular, is a big SUV capable of hauling 7 passengers with cargo comfortably.
Minivans
If sheer people moving capability is what you’re seeking, minivans are the way to go.
Less than $25,000
For Garston, there’s only really one pre-owned minivan that sells like hotcakes. The Dodge Grand Caravan has long been the reigning champion for us. There are many reasons to like it, but we love it for its clever Stow’n Go seating arrangement. Depending on how much you intend to spend, you can go from a mid-year fifth-gen model to the latest post-facelift model.
This is just a bit of an introduction to serve as a guideline as to what models are popular at certain budgets within our inventory.
